Art FUNdamentals is a multi-age, self-directed art lesson book series, Book One, The Elements of Art, will be available here soon. The image you see on the left is the rough draft.
Art FUNdamentals books will be available as ebooks that can be downloaded and used immediately after purchasing, with direct links to resources. You can print the entire book or print pages as you need them for you and your immediate family. If you prefer a hard-copy already printed, that will be available too.
I am using my 15+ years of of experience in teaching art, both in public school and in my home, to create this multi-age art curriculum for homeschoolers and anyone who wants to learn to draw and create art better. I noticed that a lot of homeschooling families were not really sure how to teach art to their children, or that art often got left out, unless one of the parents had a background in art. Art FUNdamentals will be an inexpensive way to learn how to draw, paint and create in different media that all members of the family can use independently or together.
A lot of research has shown that involvement in the arts, and learning art fundamentals, is associated with gains in math, cognitive ability, critical thinking, reading and verbal skills. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and the ability to work together.
Many adults never develop their art skills beyond the level of a 9-10 year old. Studies show that if a person does not develop drawing skills above that level, they often give up thinking they are not good at art. Anyone who has the dexterity to write their name, can learn to draw if they have the desire and devote a little time to learn.
So whether you are homeschooling, looking for ways to incorporate more art into your family's lives, or are wanting to learn to draw or become more artistic, Art FUNdamentals will help you.

Art Every Day Challenge
While looking at reviews for a book on art journaling I was considering purchasing, someone mentioned an Art Every Day Challenge. Since the idea intrigued me, I did an internet search and found a group of artists who had started an Art Everyday Challenge a couple years ago, but did not seem currently active, so I decided to start a new challenge with my children and invited other homeschool families and artists to join us.
My idea is to sketch in my art journal or work on a piece of artwork every day and have my children do the same. I started a Facebook Art Every Day Challenge group and invited people to join us. This way others who are participating can share ideas and offer encouragement. I'll be putting image files of participants sketches and artwork on my Facebook and Flickr pages. I started the challenge for the month of October, 2011, but plan on continuing and would love to see others continue the challenge after the month ends.
If you would like to join me in this challenge to create something daily, I'd love to hear from you! No matter what you feel your skill level is in art, everyone is creative so take the plunge with me and encourage your kids to do so too! You can request to join the group or you can adding me as a friend. Just mention the Art Every Day Challenge, if I don't already know you, so I accept your friend request.
Don't worry if you aren't sure what to draw or create. There will be lots of ideas to get you started on the Homeschooling Freedom Blog. You can scan your work and send it to me to add to my Art Every Day photos if you like too!
